Don't use drupal, unless you have a good background in php, and like a lot of complex tinkering to get it to look normal.
Drupal is a powerful CMS, that allows you to do a lot of things, but it has a steep learning curve.
If you just want simple things like a blog, some pages, and listing of some shows / event you are doing, wordpress is a much easier to setup right out of the box.

I recommend Blogger. But since you're not gonna go with Blogger I recommend wordpress.

wordpress can be pretty good if you set it up decently. or buy a theme setup that's band-oriented. like from http://bandthemer.com for instance (actually some local guys who put that site and its themes together.) you'd probably want to mod the themes but that's kinda a given. if you arent willing to do that / hire someone to do that, stick to myspace/virb/reverbnation. ;) |

i'm thinking about trying to learn it, but don't really know where to start. i have some vb experience, but haven't done any web coding outside of html and some basic javascript.

i work professionally with drupal as an interface designer / project manager at my design business. i have coders to actually template it for me though (not my expertise.) i'm told the o'reilly 'using drupal' book is pretty good. |

thanks. the library appears to have that as an ebook, so i'll definitely check it out.
my only concern about trying to learn it is I don't have any knowledge of php or mysql stuff. is it that big a leap to pick it up?

well, yeah. moreso than picking up wordpress theming, for instance. these days, with PODS and all that i'd suggest wordpress is the way to go if you don't know php, cause you can do a lot of the stuff that you used to need something like drupal for.
