The shows so far have been incredible if the videos and recordings are to be believed. Prime Lizard. If you never saw this band you are a fool to skip this.

I saw them 2 or 3 times already but im there for sure! Will buy all the LP reissue too to get in the mood. I bought all their records on cassettes at the time and gave them to my little brother when i moved to montreal, i need to reinvestigate. Especially Pure and Head, haven't heard those in a decade, maybe more!

Saw them at Cabaret a couple of times in the mid-90's, some of the best shows I've ever seen.

I saw them in september, for the first time, i was too young in 1997. A solid show, although not as wild as the rumor goes.

yeah i saw them a lot back in the day, too...because they were always great, and it didn't cost 25 fucking dollars. can't blame them for wanting to cash in, i guess. they never got what they deserved.

I don't know how many times I got to see them. About ten times in various locations. I'm linking to a live show that Dan from Priestess hooked me up with. He gave me some cassettes of live shows from 1990-91 and one was from Ottawa (05.03.1990). This recording was made between the Toronto and Montreal shows while The Jesus Lizard was on tour with Melvins and Helmet. They played their own show in Ottawa while the others had a day off in Montreal. It's a good recording (not great). If someone want the whole thing in better quality complete with a long somewhat pointless joke by Yow, let me know. Includes a cover of "Old Brown Shoe" The Jesus Lizard Live in Ottawa 05.03.1990.

okay..how does opening band stuff work in this town? For years, I've always heard complaints from people who had been to shows here, to see great bands, but had to suffer through NASTY opening bands.. it became like a bad joke.. I'm not saying Grand Trine are Bad, but.. like.. they opened the NoMeansNo show too.. and it was SO underwhelming that.. well..
how do these bills get put together? Is it promoters? Do the touring bands get a say? or do they just get told they're playing with some local band..? or better, did they hear this band and like them? which would be cool..

Obviously the promoters put together the shows. Touring bands can request acts and stuff but if they don't, making sure that events are successful entails having a LOCAL ACT that will draw an audience who may otherwise not attend the show. I mean, there are a lot of shitty locals that would make no sense to be on this bill. GT works and they will draw some people out who may otherwise not attend (self included). It is probably best to not ask questions like this with negative overtones, because it makes you come across as kind of a dick. and whiny

Jesus Lizard were a band I sort of just didn't ever pay attention to growing up. You are bound to miss out on some. I think it would be cool to see them, a good local I like on the bill makes it more enticing

It is probably best to not ask questions like this with negative overtones, because it makes you come across as kind of a dick. and whiny^^ It was a serious question, and I thought I was being kind of judicious in my phrasing..although AS a dick, I may not be the best judge.. I'm not WHINING about showing up early to catch the opening band for one of my all time favourites, unlike a lot of people who seem to try to avoid it at all costs..I do it on purpose! this time, like many others, it seemed like a weird pairing..I guess I'm not in tune to this "Hype" you folks speak of.. and really, if you're opening for a band that's been fucking steamrolling since you've been in diapers, and you start your set by saying "Feel free to bring your walkers closer to the stage" it makes you seem a little..uh..smug? So you better put your money where your mouth is..and playing kinda really basic really rehashed stuff (not a problem, IMO) but making it sound like it's piping out of a metal trash is hardly enough to bring it to the next level.. Although to be fair, I did dig the drummer.. (unless brettwagg IS the drummer, in which case he is a douchebag) and that squishy tape recording of R.F.I.D does kick ass.. In closing, Grand Trine are opening for one of the greatest bands in the world.. (and I am not :) so just call this a bump for the show.. !
